Herriman has been one of the fastest-growing cities in the entire state of Utah over the past decade, and its school system has been racing to keep up. New elementary schools keep opening in neighborhoods like Rosecrest and Herriman Towne Center, two comprehensive high schools now anchor the city, and a handful of charter schools give families even more choice. As a Realtor who works throughout the south Salt Lake Valley, I put together this guide to help you understand the school landscape before you commit to a neighborhood.

1. How the School System Is Organized

Herriman sits inside Jordan School District, the same district that serves Bluffdale, Copperton, Riverton, South Jordan, and West Jordan. Because the city has grown so quickly, it's actually split across two high school feeder systems: the older Herriman High feeder on the city's north and east side, and the newer Mountain Ridge High feeder that covers Rosecrest and the southern part of the city.

Boundary lines here shift more than almost anywhere else in the valley, since Jordan School District is still building new schools to keep pace with rooftops. When I work with a family on a specific Herriman address, I always confirm the current boundary assignment and ask whether a boundary study is underway, rather than assuming last year's map still applies.

2. Public Schools in Herriman

Why does Herriman have two high schools so close together? Growth. Herriman High opened first and quickly filled up, so Mountain Ridge High was built to relieve overcrowding and now serves the newer neighborhoods to the south.

Are new elementary schools still being built? Yes. Herriman has added several elementary schools in the last few years, and it's common for a brand-new subdivision to be zoned to a school that didn't exist five years earlier.

How do Herriman schools compare on ratings? Many of Herriman's newer schools post strong ratings, in part because of newer facilities and growing family incomes in the area, but I always recommend checking the specific assigned school rather than assuming every Herriman school performs the same.

Providence Hall (K-12) is an International Baccalaureate World School with a strong college-prep track record and a graduation rate that consistently tops 95 percent.

Salt Lake Academy (K-12), formerly known as Real Salt Lake Academy, blends academics with athletics and leadership training across a K-8 campus and a 9-12 campus.

Advantage Arts Academy (K-6) focuses on integrating the arts into a traditional elementary curriculum.

Because Herriman is growing so fast, charter waitlists can move quickly in either direction, so it's worth checking current openings directly with the school.

4. What Makes Herriman Schools Attractive to Families

New facilities. Because so much of Herriman has been built in the last fifteen years, many of its schools are newer than what you'll find in older valley cities.

Master-planned communities. Neighborhoods like Rosecrest and Herriman Towne Center were designed with schools, parks, and trails close together, so kids can often walk or bike to class.

Room to grow. Herriman's newer schools tend to have more flexibility for enrollment growth than older, landlocked schools elsewhere in the valley.
